When can I apply for my provisional license?
You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old to apply. Keep in mind you can only start driving a car when you are 17 year old. You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for the enhanced rate of the mobility component of personal independence payment (PIP) You must also be able to read a number plate from 20.5 metres away. Do I need to pass my theory test before I can start learning to drive?
Not at all. You can learn and embed the knowledge you’re learning and practically see how it is applied. However, before you book a practical car test, the theory test must be passed.
What do I need to start driving lessons?
You must be at least 17 years old and have a valid provisional driving license. You also must be able to read a standard number plate form at least 20.5 metres.
How many driving lessons do I need to pass my practical test?
This varies pupil to pupil and is based on different factors such as individual learning speed, consistency of taking lessons and your learning styles. Your experienced instructor will work closely with you adapting your lessons to your needs and will be able to advise you when you are ready up to test standard.
Is there a recommended number of lessons I should take?
To promote effective learning, we recommend that you take a minimum of 2 hours of lessons a week. However, everyone is different and has their own pace so we will work with you and what suits your needs.
What is the pass mark for the Theory Test?
The current pass mark for Car drivers is as follows:
  • Multiple Choice Questions-43/50
  • Hazard Perception- 44/75
What happens if I fail my Theory Test?
You must wait at least 3 working days before taking your test again. There is no rush, so take your time. Revision is the key.
What are the common reasons pupils failing the Practical Test?
